Laser Cutter Safety in Library Makerspaces

Fourteen years after the first modern library makerspace opened at the Fayetteville Free Library, makerspaces have become a staple in libraries across the country. These creative hubs empower patrons to design, build, and explore using equipment like 3D printers, vinyl cutters, and laser engravers. But as libraries embrace innovation, one critical element can’t be overlooked—safety. In particular, proper safety procedures for laser cutters are essential to ensuring that creativity and community engagement thrive without risk.
