VA Health Chat Connects Veterans with Care Quickly and Conveniently

When you have a health care concern or question, you want to speak with someone immediately. If you’re sick, you might not want to get out of bed or drive to a clinic. The VA Health Chat app makes it easy for Veterans to get help wherever they are from their smartphone, tablet, or computer.
How VA Health Chat Can Help
With VA Health Chat, Veterans enrolled in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs health care can quickly connect with a VA staff member. Caring VA staff can provide immediate answers on the topics below:
- Non-life-threatening injuries or illnesses, such as congestion, rash, or stomachache.
- VA prescriptions.
- Scheduling a VA appointment.
VA Health Chat Availability
VA Health Chat is available nationwide in all 18 VISNs. However, not all channels are available in all VISNs. Veterans can see the channels that are available to them by signing in to the app. New channels are being added regularly, so Veterans should check back periodically to see what’s available.
How To Use VA Health Chat
Veterans can connect with VA staff in most locations Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. local time, excluding federal holidays. In some locations, staff are available 24/7.
To access the app through their browser, Veterans can visit the VA Health Chat page.
To protect your personal information, you will need to sign in to the app with VA-supported credentials. In 2025, you’ll have 2 secure sign-in account options (Login.gov and ID.me) for all VA websites and apps. We’ll remove the My HealtheVet option after January 31, 2025, and the DS Logon option after September 30, 2025. You’ll still be able to use your My HealtheVet health portal—you’ll just need to sign in to it with a Login.gov or ID.me account. Learn more.

When using VA Health Chat, Veterans are encouraged to complete the survey at the end of their chat encounters. Feedback is important to VA, as it helps guide future updates and improvements to VA Health Chat.
