About PL Online
Practical ideas and timely insights for public library professionals.
Public Libraries Online (PL Online) is the official digital companion to Public Libraries, the bimonthly publication of the Public Library Association (PLA). It serves as a dynamic platform for sharing timely, practical insights that support the evolving work of public libraries and library staff.
The site publishes content designed to inform, inspire, and be put into practice. Topics span emerging trends, innovative programs, community engagement, books and authors, technology, and other issues shaping the field. With an emphasis on immediacy, we aim to highlight current conversations and critical topics relevant to public library professionals.
A core strength of the publication is its contributors. The site reflects the collective knowledge and experience of library workers across roles and career stages. Active practitioners, retirees, and library school students are all invited to share ideas, research, and real-world applications that benefit the broader field.
Over more than a decade of publishing, PL Online has grown into a substantial body of knowledge–an evolving record of ideas, practices, and insights that public library professionals can return to again and again.
PL Online is a publication of the Public Library Association.
